AWS Serverless Computing

Your Engineering Teams Should Be Building Products, Not Managing Infrastructure.

Every hour your engineers spend provisioning servers, applying patches, managing scaling groups, and diagnosing infrastructure issues is an hour they are not delivering product. Serverless computing on AWS eliminates that overhead. With AWS Lambda, Amazon EventBridge, Step Functions, and API Gateway, your applications scale automatically, cost nothing when idle, and run across multiple availability zones without your team managing a single server.

Futran designs, builds, and operates serverless architectures on AWS for organizations that want to reduce infrastructure complexity without sacrificing performance, security, or observability. As a holder of the AWS Lambda Delivery designation, our serverless delivery capability is validated. The global serverless computing market is growing at 14 percent annually, and organizations that adopt event-driven serverless patterns consistently reduce infrastructure operating costs by 60 to 80 percent for variable workloads.

Serverless Architecture Service Capabilities

Serverless Application Design and Architecture

Serverless architecture decisions made at design time determine whether your application is cost-efficient, observable, and maintainable at scale. We assess your workload characteristics, identify which components are appropriate for Lambda’s event-driven execution model versus containerized compute through Fargate or EKS, and design event-driven architectures that use Lambda for stateless processing, EventBridge for event routing, Step Functions for complex workflow orchestration, and API Gateway for HTTP traffic management. Every architecture decision is documented with cost and performance rationale.

AWS Lambda Development and Optimization

We develop Lambda functions using the runtime and language best suited to your workload’s performance requirements, applying optimization practices including function sizing, Provisioned Concurrency for latency-sensitive paths, Lambda SnapStart for Java workloads, and connection pooling for database-connected functions. For applications that previously dismissed serverless due to cold start concerns, the Lambda platform updates shipped through re:Invent 2025 and Q1 2026 have materially changed the performance profile of .NET and Java functions on Graviton3, making them viable for workloads that were previously inappropriate for Lambda.

Event-Driven Architecture with EventBridge and SQS

Modern serverless applications are built as distributed event-driven systems, not collections of individual functions. We design EventBridge event routing architectures that decouple your application components, SQS queue configurations that handle load spikes without message loss, SNS fan-out patterns for multi-consumer event processing, and Kinesis data streams for high-throughput real-time data pipelines. Each integration is designed with dead-letter queue handling, retry logic, and observability built in from the start.

Serverless AI and ML Inference Pipelines

Lambda’s integration with Amazon Bedrock makes it the natural orchestration layer for AI workflows that involve document processing, classification, summarization, and retrieval-augmented generation. We build serverless AI pipelines that use Lambda for orchestration and event triggering, Bedrock and SageMaker for inference, and S3 with intelligent processing for document intake. For organizations building AI capabilities on AWS, serverless architecture eliminates the infrastructure overhead of running dedicated inference servers for workloads that are bursty rather than continuous.

Serverless Data Processing and ETL

Data pipelines that run on a schedule or in response to events are natural candidates for serverless architecture. We build Lambda-based ETL pipelines, S3-triggered data processing workflows, DynamoDB Streams processing, and Step Functions orchestrated data transformation workflows that scale automatically with data volume and cost nothing during idle periods. For organizations with irregular or unpredictable data volumes, serverless data processing eliminates the infrastructure sizing decisions that lead to either over-provisioning or capacity shortfalls.

Serverless Security and Governance

Serverless compute shifts the security boundary from the OS layer to the IAM and application layers. We implement security for serverless architectures using Lambda resource-based policies, least-privilege IAM execution roles, VPC integration where network isolation is required, AWS Secrets Manager for credentials management, and AWS WAF integration for API Gateway endpoints. Every Lambda function we deliver is configured with the minimum permissions required for its specific function, and permissions are reviewed as part of our standard delivery process.

Observability and Production Operations

Serverless architectures that lack observability are harder to troubleshoot than their server-based equivalents because the execution environment is ephemeral. We implement centralized logging using CloudWatch Logs, distributed tracing using AWS X-Ray, custom metrics and dashboards for business-relevant KPIs, and alerting on cold start rates, error rates, and latency percentiles. Our serverless delivery practice includes a production readiness review before any function goes live, covering observability, error handling, retry logic, and cost projection.

Choosing the Right Compute Model

Serverless architecture is the optimal choice for event-driven workloads with variable or unpredictable traffic, short-duration processing tasks, APIs with fluctuating request volumes, scheduled automation, and data processing pipelines triggered by events. It is not the right choice for long-running processes that exceed Lambda’s 15-minute execution limit, GPU-intensive workloads that require dedicated compute, applications with consistently high and predictable load where EC2 Reserved Instance pricing is more cost-effective, or workloads with sub-10ms latency requirements that cannot tolerate cold start variability.

We assess your specific workload characteristics and recommend the right compute model honestly. Where serverless is not the optimal choice, we say so and design the appropriate alternative. The goal is the right architecture for your workload, not serverless for its own sake.

AWS Credentials That Mean Something to Your Business

Credentials in the AWS partner ecosystem are not simply awarded. They require validated delivery capability, certified personnel, and demonstrated client outcomes reviewed by AWS. Here is what each of our designations means for an organization evaluating an AWS partner.

Assess Your Serverless Readiness

We evaluate your current workloads and application portfolio to identify which components are strong candidates for serverless migration, model the cost and operational impact, and produce an implementation roadmap with timelines and effort estimates.

FAQs

Lambda delivers the strongest business value for event-driven workloads with variable traffic: API backends, data processing pipelines triggered by S3 events or DynamoDB streams, scheduled automation, webhook handlers, and AI orchestration workflows. Financial transaction processing, insurance claims intake, healthcare data routing, and document processing pipelines are common enterprise use cases where Lambda's pay-per-invocation model and automatic scaling produce significant cost and operational benefits over provisioned server infrastructure.

Cold starts are a real consideration for latency-sensitive applications. We address them through a combination of Provisioned Concurrency for functions on critical paths, Lambda SnapStart for Java applications, right-sized memory allocation which also increases CPU and reduces execution time, and runtime selection based on cold start profiles. For most enterprise use cases, properly configured Lambda functions achieve response times that are indistinguishable from always-on compute for end users.

In a serverless model, AWS manages operating system security, hypervisor security, and physical infrastructure. Your security responsibilities shift to IAM policy design, application code security, API authentication, data encryption, and network access configuration for VPC-connected functions. This is a narrower security surface than server-based compute, but it requires precise IAM configuration. Overly broad Lambda execution roles are one of the most common serverless security issues we identify during assessments.
